Has Brian Wilson "jumped the shark"?
Surely, you remember the “Happy Days” episode where The Fonz does his best Evil Knievel impersonation and — while on water skis — jumps over a hungry shark while still wearing his famous leather jacket?
It wasn’t too long after that episode that the popular 70′s sitcom met its demise. In fact, the term “jumping the shark” has now become synonymous with overexposure or an idea who’s time has passed.
I’m starting to wonder if our beloved closer and certified ninja Brian Wilson may be getting dangerously close to jumping the shark himself.

We all know Wilson spawned a new catch phrase (“fear the beard”) that became so popular this past season that Cooperstown enshrined FTB artifacts. He was also fined by MLB for wearing shoes that had “too much awesome” (in fact, Sony recently memorialized those cleats in its soon-to-be-released “MLB 11: The Show”). And let’s not forget his appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno where he introduced America to “The Machine.”
Now comes word of a new Showtime production that will follow Wilson and his teammates around all season, chronicling his every move.
Everyone knows that most successful Major League Baseball closers are a little “off.” And while Giants fans probably can’t get enough of the oft-nonsensical B-Weez, I imagine the rest of the country may be getting a little tired of Wilson’s act.
Are you?
