According to a tweet from beat writer Hank Schulman, the San Francisco Giants have signed ex-San Diego Padres starter Brian Lawrence to a minor league deal. Lawrence, 34, pitched for the Florida Marlins’ Triple-A team in New Orleans last season and has not pitched in the majors since 2007, when he started six games for the New York Mets and went 1-2 with a 6.83 ERA and 1.931 WHIP.

The right-handed Lawrence was 49-61 with a 4.10 ERA and 1.322 WHIP in five seasons (2001-2005) as a Padres starter.

Schulman also says that a previous minor league deal for Elmer Dessens has fallen through.
