Giants bloggers complete balloting for annual BBA awards

The Baseball Bloggers Alliance has concluded its balloting process for the 2011 baseball season awards and the official national results will be made available throughout the month of October.

The BBA was formed in 2009 to encourage cooperation and collaboration between baseball bloggers of all major league teams as well as those that follow baseball more generally. The organization consists of 275 blogs spanning all 30 major league squads as well as general baseball writing.

The Baseball Bloggers Alliance is organized under a similar structure as the Baseball Writers of America, where blogs that follow the same team are combined into “chapters” and only two votes from the chapter on an award are counted.

The San Francisco Giants chapter, made up of 17 different Giants blogs, concluded its postseason balloting process Friday, using the “group ballot” method, which means we took a collaborative approaching for deciding the two votes we get for each BBA award.

The awards that we voted on are as follows:

• The Connie Mack Award, given to the league’s best manager
• The Willie Mays Award, given to the league’s best rookie
• The Walter Johnson Award, given to the league’s best starter
• The Goose Gossage Award, given to the league’s best reliever
• The Stan Musial Award, given to the league’s overall best player (pitcher or hitter)

As chapter President, I sent out a Survey Monkey to the other 16 blogs in the Giants chapter of the BBA. Only 10 of the chapters decided to participate and the voting results are below. Each first place vote is worth three points. A second place vote is worth two points and a third place vote got one point.
