Giants sign Gregor Blanco to minor league deal
According to a tweet from Matt Eddy over at Baseball America, the Giants have signed 27-year old outfielder Gregor Blanco to a minor league deal.
Blanco played for three seasons in Atlanta (2008-’10), where he batted .252/.361/.309 in 204 games with the Braves.
Atlanta had high hopes for Blanco and at one point thought he would be the heir apparent to Andruw Jones in center field.
When that didn’t pan out, he was sent (along with Tim Collins and Jesse Chavez) to the Kansas City Royals for Rick Ankiel and Kyle Farnsworth at the 2010 trade deadline.
Less than a year later, the Royals dealt Blanco to Washington for a player to be named later.
He struggled at Triple-A Syracuse (.203/.335/.343) in 2011 before the Nats granted him free agency.
