The Washington Nationals have signed former Giants pitcher Waldis Joaquin to a minor league contract and have invited him tp spring training, according to Bill Ladson (MLB.com).

Joaquin, who was originally signed by the Giants in 2003 as an amateur free agent, spent the past three season with the Jints, appearing in 19 games during that span and posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.800 WHIP.

The 24-year old righty spent most of 2011 at Triple-A Fresno (2-2, 3.44 ERA, 1.500 WHIP) and made five appearances in San Francisco (1-0, 4.26 ERA, 1.421 WHIP). He was dropped from the Giants’ 40-man roster in advance of the Rule 5 Draft last week.

Joaquin has a solid variety of pitches, including a fastball that touches the mid-to-high-90s.
