According to MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez, the San Francisco Giants are one of several teams eyeing Cuban southpaw Gerardo Concepcion.

Concepcion, 18, defected from Cuba last summer when he was playing for Industriales de la Habana during the World Port Tournament in the Netherlands. He declared free agency last week.

The 6-1, 175-pounder was named Rookie of the Year in the Cuban Serie Nacional in 2010-’11 after posting a 10-3 record and a 3.36 ERA in 21 games, including 16 starts. In 101.2 innings, he posted a 4.7 SO/9 rate and 3.8 BB/9 rate. His fastball is listed at 89 to 91 mph.

The Phillies, Red Sox, Yankees, Rangers, Marlins, Cubs, White Sox, Blue Jays and even the Kansas City Royals have expressed an interest in Concepcion. The Rangers and Yankees appear to have the inside track on the young pitcher.
