The San Francisco Giants have signed right-handed reliever Clay Henlsey to a one-year contract, according to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick.

Hensley, 32, went 6-7 with a 5.19 ERA and 1.360 WHIP in 37 appearances last year with the Florida Marlins.

In six big league seasons, the 5-11, 190-pounder has a 24-29 record, 3.94 ERA, 1.351 WHIP, 6.3 SO/9 rate and 4.0 BB/9 rate.

He was originally selected by the Giants in the eighth round of the 2002 draft and a year later was traded to the San Diego Padres for Matt Herges.

He is best remembered for being the dude that coughed up Barry Bonds‘ 755th career home run.

Crasnick reports that Hensley will earn a base salary of $750,000 and could get an additional $300,000 in performance awards. Henry Schulman (San Francisco Chronicle) adds that “his contract is non-guaranteed. He has to a win a job in spring training.”

As long as he doesn’t give up BOMBS like that when he pitches for the Giants. Otherwise, he would need to stay in the minors.
