Gregor Blanco named MVP of Venezuelan league
According to the Liga Venezuela de Beisbol Professional (LVBP) website, Giants minor league outfielder Gregor Blanco was named the International ”Vitico Davalillo” Line Up Most Valuable Player award winner for the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League’s 2011-2012 season.
Gregor, 28, finished fourth in the league in batting (.337), first in runs scored (47), sixth in hits (66), fifth in doubles (14), second in triples (5 ), sixth in total bases (102), fifth in extra base hits (23), first in walks (47), third in slugging (.520) and first in on-base percentage (.478).
The Giants signed the left-handed outfielder to a minor league deal in November.
Blanco played for three seasons in Atlanta (2008-’10), where he batted .252/.361/.309 in 204 games with the Braves.
Less than a year later, the Royals dealt Blanco to Washington for a player to be named later.
He struggled at Triple-A Syracuse (.203/.335/.343) in 2011 before the Nats granted him free agency.
