Happy birthday to former Giants pitcher Atlee Hammaker (pictured), who turns 54 today.

There are just 26 days remaining until pitchers and catchers report to spring training and 70 days until Opening Day.

On this date in Giants history…

1973: Left-handed pitcher Warren Spahn is elected to the Hall of Fame by the BBWAA. In his first year of eligibility, Spahn is named on 316 out of a possible 380 ballots. Spahn won a total of 363 games during a 21-year major league career, spent mostly with the Braves. He split his final season between the Mets (20 games) and Giants (16 games).

2006: Barry Bonds pulls out of the U.S. team for the World Baseball Classic, opting to skip the March tournament to focus on the next baseball season.
