Cain, Giants take on Tribe today

(AP Photo/Darron Cummings)Giants starter Matt Cain (1-0, 0.00) faces Derek Lowe (0-1, 5.40) as San Francisco hosts the Cleveland Indians in a Cactus League match-up today at Scottsdale Stadium.

Cain will make his second spring start. He has not allowed a run so far in five innings of work. Cain has given up five hits, a walk, and a hit batsmen so far this spring. The Giants want him to get four innings in today.

Lowe, who was acquired by the Indians over the winter, will also be making his third Cactus League start. So far this spring, the 38-year-old has allowed three runs on four hits and three walks in five innings.

Besides Lowe, former Giants Chris Ray, Fred Lewis, Ryan Rohlinger, and Jeremy Accardo are some other off-season acquisitions for the Tribe. Lewis, Ray and Accardo are in camp as non-roster invitees.

First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live via web stream on MLB.com’s Media Center.

Pre-game notes: Melky Cabrera’s 7-game hit streak ended yesterday when he went 0-for-3 … Emmanuel Burriss logged two more innings in left field yesterday … Brandon Belt played 7 innings in right field yesterday … Right-hander Ryan Vogelsong threw a 50-pitch simulated game this morning. He tossed 22 pitchers, sat down (“between innings”) for five minutes, then threw 28 more pitches, with manager Bruce Bochy stepping into the batter’s box on the last throw. All of the Giants management team was on hand to see how Vogey looked after missing the last 6 weeks with a strained back. Bochy said he was pleased with the 34-year-old’s progress.
