Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun, in his first action since his 50-game drug-related suspension was reversed, struck out in his only two at bats. He was given a standing ovation from the Brewers crowd when he was first announced.

But about half the crowd of 6,500 or so were Giants fans and they let Braun hear it every time he came to bat. Some fans yelled “Urine sample!” while others shouted, “Cheater!”

Braun got off on a technicality when it was determined that the lab employee who drew his sample took it home over the weekend.

Without Prince Fielder (signed with Detroit), Corey Hart (sat out with a sore right knee), or Rickie Weeks (right shoulder tightness), Giants starter Madison Bumgarner easily handled the Brew Crew (0-0-1), limiting them to one hit in 2.2 innings. MadBum struck out four (including three of the first four batters he faced) and looked very sharp in his spring debut.

The Brewers had a chance to win it in the bottom of the ninth, but with two outs, Giants pitcher Wilmin Rodriguez picked off Eric Farris at first base to end the game.

Brandon Crawford went 2-for-3 and collected his third RBI of the spring for San Francisco (0-1-1).

Top hitter: Crawford (2-for-3, RBI)
Top pitcher: Bumgarner (2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4 K)
Key moment: Rodriguez’s pickoff of Farris in the 9th inning to end the game.

The Giants will play the Brewers again on Monday night at Scottsdale Stadium. Matt Cain will start. The game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and first pitch will be at 6:35 p.m. PT.

NOTES: The Giants outhit the Brewers 7-4 … Brandon Belt played first base and went 1-for-4. Belt committed his first error of the spring in the 5th inning … Gary Brown went 0-f0r-4 with a strikeout in the leadoff spot … Former Giant Travis Ishikawa entered the game in the 6th inning and went 0-for-1 for the Brewers … According to Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com, prospect Angel Villalona‘s name plate has been removed from his locker. Villalona, who’s on the Giants’ 40-man roster, was invited to spring training but still can’t get his visa cleared to enter the U.S. from the Dominican Republic.
