Oh the drama! Matt Cain still hasn’t signed…so what.

Matt Cain‘s contract situation is still unresolved, but let’s not freak out, people.

A recent FOX Sports story has made it out to seem that there is some sort of setback in the negotiations between the Giants and Cain, who can become a free agent after this season and reportedly wants no less than $100 million dollars.

Ken Rosenthal wrote yesterday that the Giants’ chances of signing the right-hander to a contract extension before Opening Day are “rapidly diminishing.” Why? Because another sun set in the Arizona desert?

There have been absolutely no indications by the Cain camp of any hold-ups, disagreements, or cunctations. I’ve been watching this story very closely (from my laptop, granted) and I haven’t seen or heard a peep about the two sides being far apart on a deal.

Yet Rosenthal quotes “major league sources” when he writes “no further discussions are planned” and “the two sides failed to make progress toward a deal.”

Could it be that he’s referring to a post-game tweet that went out by San Jose Mercury News reporter Alex Pavlovic, who quoted Cain as saying, “No…Good try though” when the 27-year-old was asked if there was an update on his contract situation?

It’s spring training. Folks are anxious for the season to start. There’s nothing good to write about right now.

Maybe Rosenthal is making a Camelback Mountain out of a mole hill.

Or…

Maybe Cain did put his house on the market last month because he really does plan to leave San Francisco! (For full effect, press the drama button below after you read this paragraph….)
