22gigantes.com - The Cebuano language, also referred by most of its speakers as Bisaya or Binisaya (English: Visayan), is an Austronesian language spoken in the Philippines by about 20 million people, mostly in Central Visayas, eastern Negros Island Region, western parts of Eastern Visayas and major parts of Mindanao, most of whom belong to the Visayan ethnic group. It is the most widely spoken of the languages within the so-named Visayan language family and is closely related to other Filipino languages.

Dated but ruling definitive Bisaya/Cebuano dictionary By A Customer John Wolff did considerable research in the 1960s and early 70s on the Bisaya language (of which Cebuano is the dialect of Cebu City, the major center of the Visayas - central Philippines). The Cebuano dictionary was published in 1972 after years of work involving over 100 contributors. Although the language has undergone some changes over the nearly 30 years since it was first published, the Wolff dictionary remains the definitive work to this day.Words are in Bisaya with definition, grammar and remarks in English with English/Bisaya examples. Nearly 1200 pages with addendum.Since this is a Bisaya language dictionary (key entries are Bisayan words), it is not very helpful for translating from English to Bisaya. For more information on the dictionary or language, see [...] 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. but easily done. Though a bit dated By William A. Soldwisch This is the most complete dictionary of Cebuano Visayan, written in the 60's. An example sentence for each meaning of a word along with its English translation. This Kindle edition has no real navigation helps (TofC lists introductory articles then just one entry for the entire dictionary - one has to highlight the beginning of each letter of the alphabet to have a way to move quickly to a certain letter. One can use search also, but that gives you all of the examples in which the word is used as well as the main entry for the word SOMETIMES (amazingly, I've found several words for which search does not list the main entry). The spelling conventions are different from modern Cebuano - o/u is always written u, and i/e is always written i. Takes a bit of getting used to, but easily done. Though a bit dated, this is the most complete and thoroughly researched dictionary of Cebuano Visayan that I've ever found. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good reference, but hard to find anything on Kindle By CoolDude42 If I could somehow search on just the entries, then I would not take me forever to find something... but when I do finally find something I find a treasure mine explain to me exactly what's going on.
