22gigantes.com - A Christmas romance for fans of Debbie Johnson and Holly Martin. Will the magic of Christmas be enough to light a spark...? Giving a present is not always easy. Clover O'Brian knows that only too well: her job consists of helping people in the arduous task of choosing unusual gifts. Christmas is coming, New York is buzzing, and Clover, who has always loved the festive period, savours the atmosphere. Cade Harrison already has everything in life. A Hollywood actor, he is handsome, rich, famous and popular. Success, however, has its downsides; having just emerged from a disastrous relationship with an actress, he feels a need to hide away in an area unfrequented by stars, in an apartment lent him by a friend, far from prying eyes – especially those of tabloid reporters. But as chance will have it, the apartment in question is right opposite the one occupied by Clover, who until now has seen Hollywood actors only on the big screen. Two quite different lives meet by chance, at the most exhilarating time of year... By Ali - The Dragon Slayer I'm a sucker for a Christmas book even if it is a little early in the season but add in my favourite setting New York and I had to read it. Gorgeous inviting cover added to the appeal.Single girl Clover, works as a personal shopper, gets super excited about the whole aspect of Christmas but only gets to enjoy it with her friends in the store primarily because her family are so up themselves they simply don't understand her quirky character.Cade is a superstar actor, recently been through a messy break-up with his fiancee and wants a place to hide out away from public glare. Lo and behold he bolts to an apartment on Staten Island which just happens to be across the street from Clover.Clover seems to be a bit of a tomboy, clumsy and not pretentious at all .. when she meets her new 'neighbour' she recognises him from off the big screen but doesn't hero worship. Cade is so unused to people treating him normally he is pretty quickly smitten with this red-head.He eventually asks her to be his shopper .. when he is with her he rapidly learns how to indulge in the simple magic of Christmas, the excitement, fascination with snow, the lights etcClover is a little more stable and realises nothing can become of the simple shop girl and the Hollywood actor .. Cade will have to return to LA soon, right? This is such a sweet story of a young pair finding love but also all the issues that surround their circumstances. I loved all the references to places in NYC having been there myself during the season it made the book come to life instantly for me. Clover was fairly naive and I originally thought Cade was just an arrogant guy but he soon grew on me!A fantastic quick, pleasurable read to get you in the mood for mistletoe. Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for my copy. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. that slow start almost made me stop this book, but I ended up reading through and the second half was better By Jeannie Zelos A New York Love Story, Cassie Rocca from Jeannie Zelos book reviewsGenre: Romance, women’s fictionI really wanted to love this book, it sounded such fun and was in one of my favourite tropes.I didn’t dislike it but....it wasn’t more for me than just an OK ish read. The start was difficult, Cassie did an awful lots of Telling not Showing from both Cade and Zoe. There were long thoughts, kind of internal monologues and descriptions of what both of them were thinking, their backgrounds, their families and how they got where they were. That's fine for some readers but for me I need the reveal to take place by way of action and dialogue, so I found it hard going.I didn’t really feel much connection either with Cade being a bit convinced everyone wanted something from him, though maybe that’s understandable, and Zoe was just prickly to the point of rudeness to him. I wondered why he’d bother! It did get better and past the halfway mark I began to enjoy the story in parts, but there was too much from earlier that affected me, I never really felt that magic sizzle and tension I needed from them both to connect, never was really convinced they were in love. Its a great idea and will be perfect for some readers, just not for me. Stars: 2.5/3, that slow start almost made me stop this book, but I ended up reading through and the second half was better ARC supplied by Netgalley and publisher 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A charming Christmas romance By Marsha @ Keeper Bookshelf I found A New York Love Story to be a fun, slightly quirky Christmas read to set that holiday mood. Admittedly it took me a few chapters to get into the core of the story. I’m a reader who prefers that background information be shown to me in actions or dialog instead of being told. Every author and reader, for that matter, are different. Once I got into the heart of the story of Clover and Cade I was hooked.Clover is a unique character – unfortunately her family are quite nasty pieces of work and earned my instant dislike. It was a very interesting pairing of an actor who simply wants to work his craft, not be a celebrity with a cute, doesn’t really understand her uniqueness, ordinary young woman. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop. Of course, there are the misunderstandings but eventually love proves that it’s who the person is that truly matters to the heart.Christmas in New York is always a magical time of year. Somehow the city dons it’s holiday cheer and sparkles for the world to enjoy. The descriptions of the city in it’s Christmas finery were delightful and made this massive city a character of its own in this story. If you’re ready to get your holiday mood and reading started, then A New York Love Story is a charming way to kick things off.*I received an e-ARC of A New York Love Story from the publisher, Aria and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.* See all 9 customer reviews...
