AUTHENTICITY MATTERS A WHOLE LOT MORE By Redrabbitt What a beautiful and emotional Christian based story with a little bit of a budding romance. Two strangers are thrown together by circumstance, with Holden being a patient and Maddie being his nurse on this last day in ICU. With God, there are no accidents, and this story brings so much of that into play, with gentle reminders of God’s love, His faithfulness, and His mercies. The life-threatening illness that has changed Holden’s life where he will never be as he once was, healthy and completely whole, takes him on an emotional and physical roller-coaster ride. His faith in God is strong but still tested, reminding us that we as Christian we were never promised life would be easy. Maddie has lost her faith due to circumstances dating back to her childhood; she has lost her ability to trust truly and it will take her time to find her way back. Watching people who profess to be Christian, actually live their life, giving God the glory and praise will make the difference. The plot of this story kept me captivated, and was a reminder of faith and faithfulness, along with acceptance of God’s will and ways. The dialog was not preachy, but instead open, honest and heartwarming. This story is a great addition to the informal romance collection but reads as a standalone. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. 4.8 stars: An Informal Arrangement by Heather Gray By R. Miller Maddie is Holden's nurse for just one day before he's discharged from the ICU, but something about him makes her visit him even when he's moved to rehab, and when she takes some vacation time, she uses it to be his live-in nurse so he can move home again.(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)Plot and Setting: 4.3 -- Plot is engaging from start to finish. Has unique elements and no major holes, but a few shaky bits. Setting is clear and believable. Timeline may be a bit hard to follow. An interesting romance, where the main obstacles are her lack of faith in God and his lack of faith in his physical health. I liked that they become friends first as Maddie helps Holden with his mobility issues and doctor appointments, and they fumble their way into a romantic relationship from there. There are some elements that felt weird to me, such as Holden's insistence on keeping his family in the dark about his condition for so long, but overall it's a well organized story.Characters: 5 -- Relatable, realistic, interesting, dynamic characters. Even minor characters have depth, as do the relationships between characters. The characters all seem to have unique personalities, and the relational dynamics are as complex as those in real life. Even down to the cat with definite opinions of its own! I didn't completely understand where Maddie and Holden were coming from all the time, but it was clear that their attitudes and reactions were shaped by their upbringing and experiences. I liked that they were attracted to each other for a while while each holding back out of a fear that the other deserved someone better.Mechanics and Writing: 5 -- Few, if any, typos, punctuation issues, or word errors. (Redeeming Value: 5 -- Well-developed, central, uplifting themes. Drugs, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified at all. No explicit sex scenes. Clear moral guidelines for behavior. Very clean. Some moments when the characters are uncomfortably aware of their physical attraction to each other, but they keep things friendly and professional until a few kisses near the end. Touches on death, difficult family relationships, and the challenges of physical infirmity. Lessons on the biblical definition of manhood and avoiding self-pity. Maddie struggles with her concept of God and church, but eventually accepts Jesus's love and salvation. Holden's non-preachy witness had a significant impact on her.Personal Enjoyment: 4.5 -- I liked it a lot. Highly enjoyable and very entertaining. One I'll definitely read again. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful! By Kindle Customer Ms. Gray has woven a tale of great inspiration.
