Was it scary or fun?The author, Lela Hope, has written another fun book for children with lessons to be learned. Lela Hope has been writing children's books for over twenty years. She often writes series of books, and it looks like Myrtle and her friends may have more to come. In this book Myrtle the Monster, and a beautiful big red monster is she, is looking for a home. She is crying as Kelly the Kitty comes upon her. Even though Kelly was a little afraid of big Myrtle she stopped and asked if she could help. When you read this book, you will soon discover the adventures of Myrtle the Monster and Kelly the Kitty. Does Myrtle find a home?Adults will enjoy reading this book to their children. The author, Lela Hope, is most happy when she thinks of adults reading to children at bedtime just before they drift off to sleep. The children will enjoy the lilting rhyme of the words. The friendships that are formed will be encouraging for children, because we all have our tough spots in life. The illustrations are bright, vivid and colorful. They depict Myrtle the Monster in all her glory, and the friends she meets along the way.Recommended. prisrob 10-27-16 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. ~~For ages up to 6 and grades P - 2~~ By Boxer Dog Lover in Vermont... The author has written this book for ages up to 6 and for grades P - 2. The pictures are all bright and colorful and will hold the attention of the little ones in your life. To the upper left you are able to see Myrtle the Monster and her new unlikely friend, Kelly the Kitten. Kelly decides to help Myrtle find a place of her own that she can call home. All Myrtle wants is a home and everywhere they look everyone says 'no'. They see a bird, a toad, a turtle and a rabbit along the way. And, their journey takes them to the playground, the city and the forest. Finally someone points them in the right direction and Myrtle the Monster is so happy. Not only is she happy that she has a place of her own but she has also found a new friend in Kelly the Kitten. For me, the moral of the story is that despite disappointments along the way in life, good things will happen when one is persistent. A wonderful lesson to learn at a young age.The 'Zoom' is in effect on the Kindle so the drawings are able to be enlarged. I like the fact that the author included the word 'warren' so the little ones will learn a new word. Most highly recommended. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. ‘Now Myrtle has found What she had searched for. A place to call home Equipped with a door.’ By Grady Harp San Diego, California Author Leela Hope studied English Literature at Berkeley, earning a degree in 1989. Her writing covers a span of several genres, but she always returns to her first love, children's fiction. And it is there that her star shines brightest. Always finding something unique on which to base her stories, she makes each tale a learning experience for children as well as offering some pointers for parenting! In her inimitably fine rhyming mode Leela share the story of Myrtle the Monster, opening with ‘Myrtle the Monster Looked over the wall. “There’s nowhere to live There’s nowhere at all!’ But then she encounters Kelly the Kitten who, despite Myrtle’s scary appearance, offers to help her find a home. Together they look at the playground, the city, the forest, the road, the river – but everywhere they encounter other animals who simply do not want the monster around. The Kelly shows Myrtle a cabin which though small is just right for Myrtle who at last has found a true friend in Kelly the Kitten. Not only is the story colorful and entertaining but also carries a solid bit of information about friends and how to be open to new friends and even though they are different than you, they need support and kindness. Another little winner from Leela Hope. Grady Harp, May 15 See all 16 customer reviews...
