Awesome book By breiana duncan Sexual abuse is most definitely a hard topic the book was very inspirational for those who usually tend not to speak up after abuse has happened the book was a voice to all! 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Why is there still silence?? By Taya M [[VIDEOID:4e2d0fd1283b50a1ccb289913013585f]]I've just finished reading Marie Schaeller's new book - "Breaking the Chains of Silence".This is another tragic story where the victim suffers and the perpetrators are protected by the powers that be.Like so many other survivors, this author so bravely shares her story with the hope that others may be spared the same suffering. It's an amazing read, not too long, not too scary. I also felt like the author protected me somewhat so I didn't lose the message. What's really disturbing about this story is that Marie's abuser is still at large. He's still out there and the only reason is because of a government system that is flawed and protects perpetrators not victims. The system well and truly failed Marie from the beginning where as a small child she was unheard. By the time she was old enough to be heard or taken seriously, the statute of limitations prevents her from taking it further. What haunted me the most as a reader and what compelled me to keep reading, was the fact that Marie actually had incredible support from her loved ones and her family right from the beginning, yet she suffered terribly as a result of what one man did for the rest of her life. It didn't go away and it marred most of her life, yet her perpetrator walks freely and continues to have access to children daily in their home town as we speak.I've decided that if Marie is brave enough to write this incredible book - I can certainly put myself out there in a video and maybe even encourage a few others to do the same.I can follow her amazing call to action. I can write ENOUGH on my hand and post it on my social media accounts. I can tag @marieschaeller and #enoughabuse and pass it on and....you can too...I hope the lawmakers of the world are listening. We have to keep our children safe.Let's start the conversation that no one wants to have - because enough really is enough... 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Brave story of healing and a powerful call to action By lk moonwood Many, many thanks to Marie Schaeller for writing this book. She is brave to share her story of child abuse. Poignant, sad, maddening - she makes us aware not only of the post-traumatic struggles the victim suffers throughout her life, but also the inexcusably insufficient laws still in practice in many states that do not do enough to protect the victims of these heinous crimes. This book offers other victims an example of the healing power of sharing one's story - it is beautiful to read how writing and music have helped Ms. Scaheller's own healing process. Perhaps most important of all is the author's call to action - for all of us press our lawmakers to do more for the victims, to protect all our children from sexual predators. Please read this book and answer the call to action. See all 46 customer reviews...
Reader s:"I am a biker and a prospect with B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse) since February 2016. All this time, I thought I was knowledgeable enough to understand the impact of child abuse on a kid, but Marie opened my eyes in regards to how this monstrosity affects that little kid during his/her ENTIRE life. Break the silence!" -Leo M. "Brave story of healing and a powerful call to action." -L.K. Moon wood"Must read for parents, victims of sexual abuse and everyone who wants to make a change in the system." -Otakara Klettke"But Marie is a brave woman. She's not doing this primarily for herself. She's telling her story so that people can't turn a blind eye to the outrage of sexual abuse that still goes rampant in this day and age. She shares her emotions so we'll feel the outrage and despair, but also the hopefulness in knowing there are good people in the world, and that with faith, perseverance, and smarts, the light can overcome darkness. These are the inspirational tales we need. The ones that reminds us of the terrible things, but also empower us to right the wrongs and not stay quiet. I thank Marie for writing this extraordinary and courageous book." -Sebastian Cornet From the Author Writing Breaking the Chains of Silence has been a huge step forward in my healing process. It definitely wasn't an easy one, but it has been very worthwhile. It has opened up an important dialogue with my family and they've shared what has stuck with them. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted as I can talk freely about what happened -for the first time in my life- in my community.I'm humbled by the number of other survivors that have reached out to me, many in my own social circles. I felt so alone, especially as a teenager, like I was the only one this had happened to. That just isn't the case- I understand that now. Healing from sexual abuse doesn't happen overnight, and it changes as I reached my twenties and thirties. When I was writing my book, I kept my 15-year-old self in mind. She struggled so much with the flashbacks and nightmares in silence at first. It was a very scary and intense time to remember the trauma of rape at day care. My book was written with her in mind, and to help others in her shoes. Other things I wish I could tell her: I just would want her to know, it gets better. It doesn't go away or disappear, but there will be so many good days for her to look forward to. Also, hold your chin up. You did NOTHING wrong. That horrible day care center you have to pass on your way to school will close down in a few years. The process from victim to survivor is not a straight line. It is filled with ups and downs and circles around the block where you feel like you're getting nowhere fast. Keep on writing! It will help you so much, just keep on writing. When you are older, you publish a book. Remember reading Emily of New Moon? You get to follow your dreams, too. Keep on reading and writing, and remember you are never alone. You are never alone. Working to help other survivors and pass an extension to the Statute of Limitations will make you shine. Thank you to everyone who has been supportive, and all the readers of my book. It is a dream come true to have you read the words I wrote.
