Although the second in a series I read this first and found it stands alone beautifully, a must in my opinion. The book has fantastic pace with twists and turns which are not only unexpected but are wholly believable and well executed. I was captivated from start to finish and had to stay up much later than I should've each night I was reading.Jack Lockwood is a great character, so unperfect in every way that the reader can't help but identify with him, I loved him and will definitely be reading more of his escapades in the future. For me the most impressive part of this book was the fact that it kept me guessing until the end, I had an inkling about who the killerr could have been but I was far from sure, and for me, that's what makes a thriller worth reading.Well done Mr West, you have created a winner, I look forward to reading more of your work. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Addictive reading! By Maria Savva I'd been wanting to read this book for ages because I really enjoyed the first book in the series, Rock'n'Roll Suicide. Although this is book 2 in a series, it is a totally different story, rather than a continuation, and can be read as an individual novel.Jack Lockwood is probably the luckiest or unluckiest man on the planet (depending on how you look at it). He always manages to get himself into life-threatening situations, yet he always gets out alive! This is actually one of the most enjoyable things about the two books in this series, there is endless action and tension, and page-turning suspense. In this book, Jack Lockwood finds himself falling in love with a woman, who it later turns out could have a very dark past. Or does she just look like the woman who could be a murderer? This is one of the mysteries Jack has to solve. Meanwhile, there is a contract on his life because of a book he is writing. We follow Jack as he tries to survive and also tries to find out who his new love interest actually is.As a further twist, he meets another woman who falls head over heels in love with him. Which woman will he choose?Another part of the storyline is the investigation into a spate of recent murders in Canterbury. The serial killer has been dubbed The Bible Killer. Could this serial killer be a bit closer to home than Jack first thinks?Geoffrey West's writing is addictive and I'm very happy to have discovered such a talented author. I'm looking forward to book 3.If you like traditional crime fiction you'll love this book. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Intelligent and unpredictable By Terry Tyler The title of this review says it all, really....I bought this because I am interested in anything with the words 'serial killer' in the title or blurb!I don't read many books of the crime thriller fiction genre as I am not very interested in all the 'Yes, but it could have meant...' stuff when it comes to solving the crime, so I have little with which to measure this book - I'm a crime fiction reading novice! However, I DO love watching this sort of thing on television, and I must say I was very pleased to find that, in this novel, none of the results that arose throughout the second half were predictable, none at all. I love it when I can't guess 'whodunnit', or, indeed, even the outcome of the romantic interest! This book had several layers to it, several mysteries, which made it more interesting. The story flowed well, was intelligently and professionally written and had no boring bits or the superfluous detail found in some 'indie' books; everything was relevant to the plot, and the characterisation was good, too. Who will it appeal to? I'd say those of you who like to watch the sort of traditional crime detective type stuff on British television - Morse, Lewis, Blue Murder, that sort of thing. Jack Lockwood is not the macho, rugged hero I'd expected, either; he's actually quite sensitive and 'new man' for a crime solving writer hero character, so perhaps lovers of Jonathan Creek will like it, too!
