Mullen Action packed and exciting would be the best way to describe Faith, though a back story for some of the main characters would have made it easier to get into, that did not stop me from enjoying the story as it is written. But when I first started reading this book I felt like I had missed something. It just started, no back story to who Jacob was or how he ended up injured. Having not read the Cinderella’s Secret Dairies series, which is the lead up to The Jovian Gate Chronicles, I was lost. But it didn’t take long before I was pulled into the storyline. It is a strange tale of the future, the catholic church and time travel and aliens and magic and…well you get the picture, there is a lot going on in the story and a lot to keep track of and names to remember. It takes concentration to keep it all straight. And it is fast paced, making it a wild ride where anything could happen. Not wanting to give too much of the story away I will just say, if you’re going to read this, the first book in the Jovian Gates Chronicles, read the Cinderella series first. This is not a series I will want to miss, now I have almost finished doing the back reading, and I can’t wait to see where the author takes us next. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great Start to Series By Sue H Faith is the first book in The Jovian Gate Chronicles series. I have read other books by Ron Vitale so I was looking forward to this book. This book can be read as a standalone. But it does end with a soft cliffhanger and it's clear that the story isn't over. If you read the author's Cinderella's Secret Witch Diaries, you will find a familiar main character in this book. You do not need to have read that series to enjoy this book, but if you have then you have additional background information on Phoebe. There is a lot of violence. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. This storyline is a combination of fantasy and SciFi set in a future earth timeline. It is filled with alien species at war, along with agents from the church, the government, and the aliens searching for both Phoebe and Jacob. The author did a good job of setting the stage for both the book as well as the series. The characters are multi-dimensional and well written with vivid imagery of character descriptions as well as the settings. There are a lot of clues in the storyline that keep you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next. Enough to keep me riveted just to see how it ended. As usual not everything, or everyone, are as they appear. I had a hard time not reading it straight through and can't wait for the next book in the series.I received a copy of this book and chose to write a review for it. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A pure fun romp By The Mysterious Amazon Customer I really loved Ron Vitale's Cinderella's Secret Witch Diaries with its unique twist of Cinderella's tale and magic set in the age of Napoleon. That book is loosely connected to this one and nice (but not at all essential) as background. Here, however, the author has upped the stakes by setting things in the far future with a wild mixture of time travel, operatic sci fi, magic, aliens and even the Catholic Church. With a plot full of adventure and a wonderful cast of well developed lead and supporting characters, this book is a pure fun romp. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to the next one.
