Simple, effective, and enjoyable approach to getting fit By Amazon Customer This book has everything you need to understand how to lose fat, become fit, and live a happier, healthier life. It is incredible how much information it contains from debuking myths about fat loss (e.g., starving yourself, running, eating fat-free foods, etc.) to a 28-week program the author lays out for you to achieve your fitness goals. It is not one of those "lose weight quickly and relapse in a few weeks" misleading programs that focus on short-term gains at the expense of your general health and well-being. Instead, the author focuses on the mindset and willpower as tools for taking charge of your own fitness. You will learn how to reduce anxiety that leads to overeating,how to structure your day so you are prompted to snack less, and, most importantly, how to eat well and still lose fat. When I tried some of Alex's recommendations, I was astonished at how full I felt after my meals while my body was still transitioning into the shape I wanted it to. It was a revelation to me that one does not need to starve herself in order to lose fat! If you are concerned about giving up your lifestyle, don't worry--you will still be able to fit in your little indulgences, but now you will be in control of how and when. Reading his book is like listening to a friend; but a friend with some really sound advice and some really useful and new approaches to managing your physical shape and health. He informs and inspires, asking the reader not to simply follow a few steps, reach a particular goal, and call it good, only to rebound, "fall into [that same old] trap," that yo-yo diet cycle. He lays out a systematic and pragmatic "lifestyle" for readers to adopt. But he also encourages us not to fall into a pattern of negativity, shaming ourselves for choices that might get us off track. However, he reminds us that, though life happens, we need to continue to have an honest conversation with ourselves; that is the process, "the journey."I'm also deeply encouraged by his inclusion of social media. Alex has created a "community of practice (see E. Wenger). I'm excited by this approach and think it will be meaningful as well as fruitful.
