Karlsson No book has cut to the heart of what it means to be an American better than Frank J Fleming's How to Fix Everything in America Forever: The Plan to Keep America Awesome since de Tocqueville's Democracy in America. In the pantheon of political philosophy it surely ranks above that august tome in that he not only shines a bright light on the American soul, but he lays before us simple solutions to the many problems facing America, both at home and abroad. In its rigorous presentation, it belongs next to Aristotle's Politics on the shelf of every scholar. But to be honest, having internalized the simple truths contained herein, it is difficult to remember any other book so just throw them away. Like a magnet to a hard drive, the sheer power of the arguments contained in this small tract has reset my thinking and this is the boot disk that has restored onto me a proper understanding of the issues facing this great nation. Open your eyes, grab your hammers, and prepare for awesome. Read this book, we have a country to fix. Forever. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Against the Current By MTE Readers familiar with the works of Frank J will not be disappointed. He has a great, modern sense of humor. When I came to realize this, I thought that this book can be more than a "funny read."One of the tougher jobs parents have is to make young men and ladies read something of even marginal quality for leisure. On the same level is to get younger minds engaged in their surroundings in a positive, non-whining way. "How to Fix Everything in America Forever" can be a helpful tool to accomplish both tasks and more. Frank J's style is very accessible (read: can be understood by the average guy). His humor is engaging. Couched in his writing are thought-provoking nuggets. How is it that nine educated people can find so much disagreement in a six page document? What is a "right?" ("Any actual rights you have in America you would also have on a desert island because they don't involve somone having to give you stuff.") Adults form opinions on subjects, but how often have they thought about it and for how long? Those young minds will soon become voters.A parent can use this book as a tool to open the young man/lady to the world around them. The family can share the initial narrative and build from there into an ongoing dialogue about the nature and role of government, the economy, foreign relations, etc.Sorry, review is absent teh funny. I just think parents and educators are missing a good opportunity if they don't use this book to start the education of young minds. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Frank J. Fleming Strikes Again By David Hoffman There are some people out there, mostly hippies, who believe that America's best days are behind us, that we are no longer the best, most awesome country in the world. The solutions to our problems that are proposed by the politicians do not seem do not seem to work.Fortunately, Frank J. Fleming has come to the rescue with his new book, How to Fix Everything in America Forever. In this book, he truly thinks outside the box with innovative yet commonsense solutions to the problems facing us and offers ways to make America even more awesome than it already is. These ideas include such proposals as requiring Congressmen to wear pain collars, banning whining, blowing up public schools and putting kids to work where they can learn marketable skills, punching hippies, and, of course, nuking the Moon. If we all follow Fleming's proposals, we make America a nation to be feared and respected once again. All joking aside, Fleming makes a number of very good points under the guise of satire, not least of which is that we have to get into the habit of solving our problems ourselves once again and not look to the government. Even at its best, the government helping people is like Godzilla rampaging through downtown Tokyo. As Fleming points out, relying on the government is like relying on Godzilla to save a baby from danger. Even if he does it successfully, there is still that trail of destruction he left behind. This is why the epilogue of this book is about the most dangerous hippie of all, the one we see when we look in a mirror. It does little good to punch hippies all day long, if at the end of the day we listen to the hippie inside us that tells us we can't do it on our own, we need to government to help and protect us. We need to shut that hippie inside us up so we can go about the work of making this a country even better than our forbearers gave us.I hope that Frank J Fleming is successful in making his readers think a little while they are laughing, and I hope he writes more books like How to Fix Everything in America Forever. We need them. See all 21 customer reviews...
