Great coaching book for communication By Amazon Customer How to talk to anyone is a great read for people who need help with socialization. I used to be painfully shy, to the point that I had other students presenting my projects in class!The first section addressed why people are shy/anxious in social situations and how to overcome it. To me, that is the best part of the book. People have to accept their flaws and be willing to allow change for them to grow as a person. The second part states good tips to become a better conversationalist. Two of the best tips are getting off of your high horse and not talking about yourself. Along with these tips, the author discussed 15 skills to acquire that will drastically improve your conversations and 10 things people want will make you rethink how to talk to people.At the end, the author discusses body language, verbal mirroring and other parts of conversations that isn't solely about the words you use. I loathe public situations in which I know I will have to be around a lot of people, especially ones that I don't know, and be forced to have dreadful small talk. I avoid it at all costs. My husband, on the other hand, is a social butterfly. He love to entertain and be around tons of folks. He has never met a stranger and wishes that I could be more like him so that we could go out more.Enter "How to Talk to Anyone." I read this book on a whim, hoping that it would actually help and give me some tips to FINALLY get over this extreme tendency to stick to myself. It's not so much that I'm "shy," I just never really did well with those initial interactions and getting them to be more than just "Hi. How are you?" This book contained so many excellent pointers and tips that I'm looking forward to utilizing the next time I meet someone new. I never really felt like I was being especially self-centered by focusing on myself, but this book helped me to see that in order to make interactions flow more naturally and be successful, I should instead focus on the other person and try to get them to let down their guard as well.In all this book was the most efficient at helping to shift my mentality about social interactions.
