By DMA I have long been a fan of Ken Blanchard's books. We studied The One Minute Manager in my college management class and I listened to audio books of both Gung Ho and Raving Fans many years ago. I've also used Ken Blanchard's forwards as a sort of stamp-of-approval - case in point... Who Moved My Cheese? So when I ran across Imagineering Your Life with a forward by Ken Blanchard, I decided to pause and see what it was about. I'm so glad I did.A lot of books deal in platitudes or they give you lofty goals, a couple of examples, and not a lot of practical application. I particularly dislike the books that have you imagine what you want and then tell you that through positive thoughts you'll just get there... completely unhelpful. This book was different. Each of the 7 principles are well thought out, logical, and made me really think. I really like the way the book doesn't ignore the steps that get you from where you are to where you want to be. It's the incremental steps in between that allow you to reach your goal, not just thinking about the goal and hoping you'll get there. It was a really enjoyable read - not too long, not too short - and packed with sound advice for envisioning and (more importantly) building a better life. I'm looking forward to more books from this author. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Amazing! By JOSEPH DICHIARA I've read just about every self help book out there and this is one of the best. Simple yet complex, thought provoking, pragmatic, soft, funny... Siobhan has taken her life experiences, impressive education and professional experience as a high level engineer to go though my brain and into my heart and soul. Can't wait for her next book! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A self help book that helps By Cloakndagger I really enjoyed this book. I haven't read many self-help books but this one is truly different from all the others I've seen in books stores or online. This book describes a process based on time-honored engineering principles for "building" the life you want. Ms. McKenna walks you through the entire process from blueprint to final product. Each chapter is filled with pertinent examples that illustrate the author's point. The twist in her approach is that these aren't just your typical psychobabble allegories. These are personal life experiences, architectural design, industrial and computer science-related examples which go to support those underlying engineering principles which make the author's motivational concepts so unique. You can really tell Ms. McKenna has enthusiasm for the subject and at times her willingness to help the reader along jumps out at you. In one section of the book where she describes using "vision boards" for developing your plan, you can feel her tugging at your arm as she helps you stand up and walk to the white board to work through the exercise together. This book isn't too long and not so technical in its use of engineering techniques that the average reader wouldn't be able to follow the text. It's a self-help book that's based on the practical application of a design process using your own personal data analysis rather than a "think about your happy thought and you can fly" approach.
