It didn't have an ending. Just a see through question left open enough to coax the reader to read the rest of the series. It should have had a satisfying ending while still leaving a continuing mystery to be solved.I will not waste my time reading stories that are abruptly stopped in order to force purchase of a continuance. The story should peak enough interest on its own to encourage wanting to read another episode. Not just be chopped off with no real ending. 10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. The storyline was 'OK' right up until the last page ... By avid reader The storyline was 'OK' right up until the last page, when it just stopped...it didn't end, it just stopped. Had I known, I never would have got the book. 11 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Not Worth the Effort By Reader After reading this book, all I can say is thank God I got it free. If I had paid for it, I would be unhappy and would like my money back. This is a short novella that lacks any depth or interest. The main character is way too preoccupied with herself throughout the book. The one character I take exception to is the detective Sterling Matthews. I wondered how he ever became detective or how the author researched the way police work, if she did at all. There is no way, a police officer who is good would let a rank amateur in on the interrogation of a witness or possible suspect in a murder case. In addition, he all but condoned her breaking into a suspect’s house to “search” for something to pin him to the crime. Yes, there was a perfunctory comment or two about illegality, but, in the next moment, we see him there checking it out himself, and no mention was made of any search warrant. In addition, this same amateur interrogates another potential suspect at her house, getting info that ultimately condemns her as the murderer. I hardly think any policeman or detective would have eve allowed this non-law enforcement person to become so integral a part of an investigation for murder, if the same policeman/detective wanted to be assured of a conviction. In addition, there was absolutely no chemistry between Emma and Sterling, and the appearance of Nick in the last scenes was totally out of the blue, with no prior indication. The ending was also too predictable from the get-go and too much a cliff hanger. I think the author needs to spend some time researching a book and its feasibility before writing it, which this author obviously did not. I won’t be reading any more of this author’s works. This book was a total waste of my time. Yes, it was Christmassy but that was about all it was. I would not recommend it to anyone. See all 188 customer reviews...
