Excellent guide for engaging everyone in your company By Meredith Bell I first learned about Meridith Elliott Powel and her new book Own It when she was interviewed by Denise Griffitts on Your Partner In Success radio show. I was so impressed with her message that I immediately got her first book, Winning in the Trust & Value Economy, as well as Own It. While the first one focused on creating extraordinary experiences for CUSTOMERS, Own It is focused on creating an environment that engages your EMPLOYEES - the people who ensure customers love doing business with you. What I love about this book is that Meridith addresses the roles and responsibilities of both leaders and employees. She explains why an HR-driven employee engagement program does not work and instead, why engagement needs to start with the CEO and become part of the values and culture of the entire organization. Managers and employees alike share responsibility for what happens – they have to “own” their respective roles. This is a practical guide that executives can use to first assess their current state of employee engagement, and then take specific actions to improve. For example, Meridith emphasizes the importance of “manager as coach” and describes what that looks like in practice. Her stories about real people implementing these ideas helps you see what’s possible. The final section speaks directly to employees, describing what they can do to make a difference no matter what their position. If you’re committed to creating or being part of a workplace where people are motivated to contribute their best efforts – both mentally and emotionally – then you’ll want to read this book and apply the ideas in your business. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. What a wonderful and timeless publication By JimO I only wish this book was available when I began my Bell System career in 1956. After 28 years as a Bell System Mgr. I left at the breakup of the Bell System and establish 3 small real estate offices in 3 different communities. This book would have helped me engage the many telephone employees and the independent contractors of the real estate industry. The knowledge from Meridith Powell provides the tools to recognize each employee in the business pyramid, and help them realize how important they are to the organization. There is only one head of the firm, but he or she cannot succeed without the support of the many at the broad base of the pyramid. What a wonderful and timeless publication. She begins by helping you understand the new world we live in and why the relationships that you build with your employees is as important, in fact, she says, in this economy More Important, than the relationships you build with your customers. The three parts of this book speak to your team leaders, business owners, and anyone in charge of attracting, developing, and retaining employee talent; in short, this book is for everyone in your organization, leader and employee! Meridith's personal passion comes through in her writing and her knowledge of today's business and culture. I highly recommend this book. See all 44 customer reviews...
