McMasters When I heard that Tommy had become the pastor at Crossover International and he had been featured in magazines and traveled around the world sharing his experiences, to be honest, I really wasn’t all that surprised. I first meet Tommy and his wife Lucy in late 1995. I had been approached by a pastor of a church I was attending in Imlay City Michigan. He said his friend was the pastor of a church in Florida and he had a guy who called himself the Urban Disciple who wanted to start a youth ministry for the kids in the inner city of Tampa and was looking for some help. Being in my mid twenties at the time with no real responsibilities (I wasn’t married nor had kids) I said “I’ll go “and I packed up all my belongings into my car and moved to Tampa. Even in its humble beginnings I had the sensing that Crossover was a special place and God was really going to do something with this ministry. I saw firsthand Tommy’s dedication to the city and to the kids as week after week he’d take that old hoop-dee as they called it, into the projects and pick the kids up for service. He would also provide Sidewalk Sunday School for the kids on Saturdays where they set up right there in the projects. I still remember one Saturday in particular when Pastor Tommy said look over there. I looked to my right and there were two guys standing on the street corner doing a drug deal right there in broad daylight. It was heartbreaking at times being with these kids. You could walk the streets and see dirty diapers, beer bottles and other trash lying around. Many of them had parents that were either on drugs or in prison and had no real adult supervision at home. But still even in that environment Pastor Tommy was determined to do something positive. Rebuild in written in an easy to read style for an individual read or it can used as a tool for a small group discussion. You don’t need to be a bible scholar or have masters in theology to get insight from this book either. All you need is heart and a desire to see change in the community where you live. If that’s you then I hope you check out Rebuild and let Pastor Tommy’s story encourage you on your way. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I was challenged the other day by a fellow pastor to "Think like a church planter" By Derek Griffon Rebuild is one of the most authentic books I have read. One man's life is poured onto the pages of the blood, sweat, and tears of growth as a minister of the gospel in the urban context. Urban D has impacted my life from afar just from the words on these pages. I was challenged the other day by a fellow pastor to "Think like a church planter", all the while reading this book! Buy this book if you desire to plant a church, work in the inner city, and grow as a follower of Jesus! 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. If you're looking for a feel good book or a 3 steps and your in book By joe d mccutchen "ReBuild" opens the book on how life and ministry work. I watched this story take place in the lives of Tommy and Lucy Kyllonen. If you're looking for a feel good book or a 3 steps and your in book, this is not for you. If you want to know about life, the painful and the joyous, I can't think of a better read. It is great for small groups but beyond that it is a must read for all but especially for young men and women going into the ministry. If I was a pastor today I would require all my staff to spend some time in "ReBuild." Thank you Tommy and Lucy for putting your life out for all to see. Grace/Peace See all 72 customer reviews...

After all these years, one thing as always remains constant about him: his heart for God and his heart for people. I trust you will be blessed by his words and you will learn as much as I've learned from him."
