He won a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Oregon, devoting his scientific exploration to developing new technology to support hydrogen economy. His previous books include the non-fiction `Methanol Fuel Cell Systems: Advancing Towards Commercialization' and chapters in "Nonporous Inorganic Membranes", "Hydrogen and Syngas Production and Purification Technologies". Dave is also a leading inventor (87 issued US Patents), scientist, and engineer. He now continues his passion for the 'fiction' realm with RELENTLESS SAVAGE, incorporating cutting-edge science and weaponry into his novel, often extrapolating beyond current state-of-the-art technology to near-term plausible inventions. From notes produced at his debut novel, he stated` I wanted to introduce a strong protagonist that can appear in future adventures, and yet be realistic. In other words, I want my characters to be the type of people you want to know, and you can relate to. Everyone has emotional and character flaws, and Peter Savage is no different. He has bottomed out, staring death in the face, and yet pulled back from the edge of the pit. James Nicolau is Peter's friend, but more. He also balances Peter's rash behavior. But like yin and yang, both characters have their strengths and weaknesses.'Dave manages to provide enough `real science' with the mystery/thriller/suspense genre that places his far above the authors who create make-believe `science' to insert into their fantasies. His topic of genetic manipulation is especially in focus today as scanning the newspapers and the media will attest; he has our attention from the first page. And surprisingly enough he opens with a Prologue set in the late Pleistocene Era. 27,000 years ago with a crackling concept of Neanderthal life and especially that of the stalwart hunter Tok, `the mightiest hunter and chief of his clan, who upon his death was buried in a nook at the far depths of the cave, his spirit believed to offer protection over the clan much as he had done in life. Primitive paintings applied to the cave walls commemorated his hunts, which had allowed his family to thrive. In the cool and dry depths of the cave, Tok's body very slowly desiccated, preserving his tissues for many centuries. Eventually, over the millennia, only his bones remained-- as they were left in reverence by his clan. Tok's spirit could offer no protection to his extended family. Within three years the last of Tok's clan had succumbed to disease.'Jump to the present, in Darfur - `When Peter Savage's son Ethan is kidnapped by rebel forces in Sudan while on a service trip, Peter will stop at nothing to get his son home. Recruiting old friends and tapping into the expertise of commander James Nicolau, Peter puts together an unlikely rescue mission that will pit him against deadly forces. What Peter and his team find in the Sudan is a force far more sinister and dangerous than they could ever imagine. They are drawn into a much larger top-secret government mission, one that leads them to a hidden research site with an army of genetically-perfect soldiers.' Tok rises again. It is this blending of prehistoric concept with contemporary science that makes Dave's novels so refreshingly unique. With this, his second Peter Savage novel it is clear that he has created a character we will all remember and hopefully will encounter in further adventures. A Must Read for all Action Thriller Lovers By Stephen Martino Edlund outdoes himself with his latest Peter Savage installment, Relentless Savage. After the first few pages of reading this book, I was instantly drawn into the story. Edlund successfully ties current high-concept topics such as bioterrorism, genetic engineering, and modern warfare into a fast paced novel that is both well researched and written. Plus, the battle scenes were so realistic, it made the reader feel as if he or she were right in the middle of the action. I would highly recommend this novel and look forward to the next Peter Savage installment! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Not a (Pe)"Terrible" book, overall! @badwordplay By Owen Robinson You know what story I would be interested in reading? A father loses contact with his child that is in a foreign country, so the father goes to rescue him, only to find that his son lost his phone, and couldn't be reached for awhile. Then the dad goes home, and that's that. It would certainly get rid of the stress that I feel when I read a book like this.Turns out, when Peter Savage goes to look for HIS son Ethan, he has been kidnapped by Sudanese rebel forces. Peter puts together a rag tag group of misfits (as you do in this situation) that are willing to do anything to bring Ethan home. But, AS ALWAYS HAPPENS, they stumble into a top secret government mission, concerning genetically superior soldiers, a la Captain America, the Super Soldier. Don't you hate it when that happens? That synopsis kind of brings me to the main point of my review: This book is fine. It is your standard international political thriller, and it does seem to check all of he boxes for that kind of book. And that's kind of the extent of it. It doesn't really do anything special that I could point towards, and say that this book stands out because of this one thing. But I am definitely not saying that it is bad. If you are a fan of this kind of story, this is definitely one of them. It does a pretty good job with the story, and if you are looking for a straightforward thriller, then this is worth the read. Also, their superhero would be Lieutenant Sudan. Like Lieutenant Dan?
