Most helpful customer reviews 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. there is a good description of the seven pillars By LOL For those interested in doing Spartan/obstacle racing, this is the book to get! For those of you who want some simple ways to get in shape, this works too!The first part of the book is specific to the race experience and is an interesting read. After that, there is a good description of the seven pillars. This section is great for any athlete. The information that he presents is simple, but they are absolute truths. For example, when you run easy, run easy; when you run fast, run fast. Too many people run too fast on their easy days and too easy on their fast days. All they end up with is a lot of running that doesnt really accomplish anything. The best part of the program is that they actually encourage you to simplify: simple, whole foods diet, working out outdoors, using things in nature instead of purchasing a lot of equipment. Its simple and functional. Finally, the instructions and pictures for the exercises are clear. A good addition to any exercise library 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Not much value. Teaches common sense theory to healthy lifestyles By Gearhead Mania This book primarily advertises for the author's Spartan Races. You've probably seen these races being advertised, or other similar mud/obstacle course runs (Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, etc...) The Spartan Fit book covers (in great detail) the history of Sparta, their warrior ethos, and training regime. The book covers recommended workouts, diets, and lifestyle routines. That being said, it's not a particularly useful book for those looking to improve their workouts unless they are starting from absolute scratch. As someone who has done obstacle course/mud races, and trains on a daily basis, I didn't find much value in the book - a lot of the concepts (like going to sleep at 8PM) are just common sense for a healthy lifestyle. The keys are: moderation and discipline.Overall: 3/5 stars 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good book with some concerns. By Jerry Helsing I read Joe De Sena's previous book and find this one to repeat a little of the last one as well as his program on how to become Spartan Fit. While the information is good and the book well written, I find that in order for a person to do this training, you have to be all in. No fun time with the family, no little treats, and the potential for a lot of injury. I have done P90X, X2, X3, T25, Body Beast, and a couple of other Beachbody programs which are tough in themselves. I even injured my shoulder using X2 which took a long time to heal. Regardless, I am not in bad shape but for me to be able to do this workout program, I need time that I am not willing to give up with my family and a lot of care that I am not going to hurt myself. Does that mean its a bad program? Absolutely not. If I was younger or my kids were grown up, I would highly entertain doing this program.I rated this 4 stars not because of the information above. I rated it that way because the book was just okay to read. I was not inspired to go and try this program, nor was I inspired to get to the "starting line." I was impressed with the information and will incorporate some of it in my normal workout routine. Overall, a solid 4 stars. See all 14 customer reviews...
