22gigantes.com - IT’S DARKEST AT THE DAWN!Vandal Savage can afford to be patient—he’s immortal, thanks to fragments from a comet he came into contact with more than 40,000 years ago...a comet that he has since spent aeons and spilled blood trying to bring back to Earth. A comet that, should he reclaim it, will grant him untold might.Savage’s patience is about to pay off. Through his operatives, he’s taken Superman’s powers—and, indirectly, his secret identity—to siphon the collective strength of the Justice League and generate the ultimate tractor beam. As the beam draws Savage’s long-lost comet all the way back to Earth, unsuspecting souls bearing the immortal’s genetic signature are suddenly infused with maddening might, while their “father’s” already-incredible power exponentially increases.Only a handful of heroes, led by Wonder Woman and a depowered Superman, stand between Savage and his comet, and soon even they won’t be enough—that is, unless Superman taps into a deadly element from his past to deny his immortal adversary a future of eternal power.Acclaimed writers Gene Luen Yang (BOXERS & SAINTS), Greg Pak (BATMAN/SUPERMAN), Aaron N. Kuder (SUPERBOY) and Peter J. Tomasi (BATMAN & ROBIN), joined by a who’s who of artists including Howard Porter (JUSTICE LEAGUE #3001), Ardian Syaf (BATMAN/SUPERMAN) and Doug Mahnke (GREEN LANTERN), bring one of DC’s mightiest—and oldest—villains to the forefront and signal the final days of Krypton’s last son. Collects SUPERMAN ANNUAL #3, ACTION COMICS #48-50, SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN #25-27 and SUPERMAN #48-50.This book includes two never-before-published stories following Wonder Woman after the conclusion of the events of SAVAGE DAWN.

Decently Fun Story That Wraps Up the Depowered Superman Arc By Andrew Garaventa Savage Dawn is the large crossover event that attempts to wrap up the loose ends of most of the big Superman stories before the Final Days of Superman that leads to the end of the New 52 Supes right before Rebirth. Essentially it turns out Vandal Savage has been behind Superman losing his powers in the "Truth" story arc. Now with almost none of his abilities, Clark is one of the only members of the JL left to stop Savage. Overall it is a fun story and puts and end to the dumb "Truth" era Supes (where he's depowered and in the dumb t shirt get up). The end of the story feels a bit rushed and the art at times is quite lacking (because it's a crossover some title artists are much better than others featured). Still, a fun read and worth checking out if you're interested in Final Days of Superman as this leads right into it. 0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. one last epic crossover for the New 52 Man of Steel. By Daniel Cooper I know some people didn't appreciate the Truth arc but I felt it was a big love letter to this eras Man of Steel and really cut to the core of the character. Savage Dawn is the climax to this arc as we find out who was truly behind the theft and mutilation of Clark's powers, Vandal Savage. I loved the writing as it ties in everything perfectly that's been going on in the New 52 run of the character while displaying his selflessness as the Man of Steel sacrifices everything, including his life, to protect everyone while inspiring others to do the same. This is also the clmatic finale of Greg Pak's run who was the defining writer of this character ever since his debut in Action Comics, if they ever bring back this version of the MOS he should be the writer. There is a variety of artists and I liked what each brought to the table in terms of storytelling. Also included were two previously unreleased stories following Wonder Woman after the events of Savage Dawn written by Brian Bucceleto titled "Grief" and "Acceptance". The stories detail the relationship between the Man of Steel and the God of War and her coming to terms with the breakup and death of the last son of Krypton. Personally I'm glad we finally got some closure as I felt her actions in Rebirth were out of left field cuz there wasn't any for the man she supposedly loved more than anything. All in all this was one my favorite depowered Supes stories and I highly recommend it. 1 of 3 people found the following review helpful.
