Best Review of The Dawn: The Bombs Fall (a Dystopian Science Fiction Series): Post Apocalyptic Fiction (the Dawn Series Book 1):
Most helpful customer reviews 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. In a Land of Bad Dystopias, This One's Worth Reading By Holly I read a ton of dystopias and apocalyptic books, everything from The Road and 1984 to YA dystopias like the Hunger Games, Divergent, and more. Good books of this type are rare, but I keep reading them because I like the subject matter. With the advent of self-publishing digital-only books, the books are not only getting worse, but also the ability to find good ones is much harder. On to The Dawn. Unlike other reviews of the series' books, I am not going to outline the plot! This is a review.I really liked Book 1 and have now purchased the box set of all 5 for $0.99. That's a steal :) Although one would not classify this as a ground-breaker or potential literary classic, it stands out in that it's well-written and manages to not feel like it's ripped off others in the genre or contrived. Although it is thematically similar to others of the genre, it introduces new elements to stand out and engage the reader. And it's written/edited well enough that it doesn't drive me crazy. As a "word nerd" by nature and by trade, I cannot read books with major grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors. I was glad that this one was done much better! I hope the next 4 are just as good! 5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. and the government is situated in Omega tower - the best possible place to live in this never ending nuclear ... By Kara K. Prem The Bombs Fall is the first part in a multi-book series all telling one story. It takes place at some point after a nuclear war in London (although I didn't realize it was London right away). Zach is a resident of Delta Tower, and has been since the day that he told his girlfriend that he wasn't ready to be a father and stepped back inside his office tower. The bombs fell, and his building stood while everything around them crumbled. Now there is a new society - the republic of New Omega. The Guardians enforce the rules in Delta tower, and the government is situated in Omega tower - the best possible place to live in this never ending nuclear winter. Delta tower provides water to all the towers, life is hard, food and water are rationed and never enough, scabies spreads like wildfire. In the sub levels of Delta, there is another world, even worse off than Delta. But in a sublevel bar Zach finds comfort in moonshine and pills, and makes trades to help his friends. In this bar he meets Emily, who is cleaner than anyone he's met. He discovers that she's not from Delta tower at all...is there a way out? We learn that Emily is the daughter of someone who was important in the pre-war government. Someone who knew the bombs would fall, and moved his family to the safety of Omega tower. This installment draws to a close as the New Omega lottery occurs. Once lucky resident from another tower will be selected to move to Omega where life is so much better. Zach wins... 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. ~~Hope with the Lottery~~ By USN Chief, Ret..VT Town "The Ten Creeds of the Manifesto" govern life in New Omega....supposedly! From the Author Has anything surprised you about your writing life? How much I enjoy it. I used to work in a hospital in cardiology, and loved the buzz and excitement of it. I never thought that I would find that in writing full time, which is almost what I am doing. But I love the creation, I love the fact that I can see my own writing develop, and I love the feeling of holding my books in my hands and saying 'I did that'. When somebody reads my work and tells me that they enjoyed it, it makes my day! What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer? I think for me, because I am quite impatient with myself, it's to keep myself organised and not to be too critical. As a scientist when I was working in a hospital, I always had a deadline. I have had to learn that I cannot bring that attitude with me into my writing life, even if something takes longer than my originally intended plan. I can see now that patience is the only way forward with this journey. What are you working on right now? Now that The Dawn is nearing completion I am planning to go back and finish a series from which I got sidetracked. I began writing Identity X as an intended trilogy, and once The Dawn is complete I will re-edit the first book, and then write the final books in the series. I got involved with writing Psychophilia, and this never got finished! About the Author I decided that I was going to be a writer from a young age. Apparently, I also decided to be a procrastinator, and waited twenty years before I finally wrote Chapter One. In the meantime I studied science and started working in cardiology. I loved this job, but there was a creative need that remained unfulfilled. It was at this point that I began to write my first book. Six years later, having uprooted from England and having settled on the southern Mediterranean shores of Cyprus, the dream to publish is now a reality. I am still working as a part time scientist, but I am also writing daily. When I am not sat at the computer you will find me hiking in the mountains, drinking frappe at the beach, or talking to myself in the kitchen in the style of an American celebrity chef. Just think Ina Garten.
