By Amazon Customer Practical tips on including mindfulness in our modern lifestyle. Useful and possibly unique !However, the lack of story, redundancy, and gentle humour, made this book boring to read. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Highly recommended! By Alex Babushka My girlfriend has been following the author’s blog for quite some time and got me an advanced copy of the book. I don’t meditate nor do I consider myself a Type A. However, lately I’ve been feeling more stressed than usual (that involves my day time job and side business I’m trying to grow). Hence, my girlfriend recommended meditation. I tried meditating a few years ago but figured I am not good at it since I could not calm my mind even for a minute, so after a little while I gave up.I read Melissa Eisler’s book in 2 evenings. It reads like a guide: fast and easy. There is no extra fluff. The instructions are easy to follow. I enjoyed Melissa’s story as well: she comes across as a very humble yet knowledgeable teacher who went through some tough times in her life and was able to overcome all the challenges and grow. I decided to start with just 7 minutes of daily breathing/meditation routine following her guide. So far it has been working for me very well: I’ve become less reactive, my mood throughout the day has improved and overall I feel like I have better control of my attitude towards external events and feel happier. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, especially if you are new to meditation. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Interesting, effective and more far-reaching than Type-A personalities By Lindsey C. I do not identify with the Type A personality and do not consider myself an anxious person. I do, however, have an incredibly busy life as a full-time working mother of three children 5 years and under. I've been looking for a way to balance the endless thoughts and demands pulling me in so many directions and maintain some sense of calm during my chaotic days. In an effort to develop some mindfulness skills to encorporate into my daily life I have been following this author's blog, mindfulminutes.com. Through the site, I was able to gain access to an advanced copy of this book. Despite admittedly not having had the time to read much outside of books with parenting advice for the past five years, I quickly devoured this book in two nights. It was such an easy read: well written, witty, thoroughly researched and with an interesting backstory from the author - and I learned so much. Some of the exercises are so simple to implement that I intend to even teach my children some of them. I believe that the meditation practices I've learned will not only reduce stress and sharpen my focus but will in turn positively influence my role as a parent as well. I highly recommend this book and to audiences beyond those who define themselves as Type A. See all 41 customer reviews...
