22gigantes.com - "THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON SPORTS is a MUST READ for athletes, their parents and coaches, as well as for all psychotherapists and performance experts. In case you didn't know it, THE YIPS has a clearly explainable relationship to past trauma. All one has to do is take a detailed history of the life of an athlete from his/her earliest childhood, relate that to his/her history of physical injuries and throw in a dollop of shame and criticism from parents and coaches and the reason for the yips emerges with crystal clarity. These facts are clearly illustrated in this compelling, fascinating and ground-breaking book by Drs. Grand and Goldberg. Brain-based principles of body-based memory, neurosensitization and cue-related anxiety from the trauma literature clearly prove that the yips come from post-traumatic stress syndrome. And Brainspotting has shown to be dramatically effective in mitigating, and even healing, this vexing syndrome."Robert Scaer, MDAuthor of THE BODY BEARS THE BURDEN and THE TRAUMA SPECTRUM."THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON SPORTS is a must read for anyone involved in or simply interested in sports. It tells the real story of what I went through and how countless athletes of all levels are still going through now.....unnecessarily. When no one else could, they helped me to recognize how my throwing problems came directly from sports traumas that were stuck in my brain. And then Grand and Goldberg had the knowhow to release it with the miracle of Brainspotting."Mackey SasserFormer catcher for NY MetsTHIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON SPORTS: Beating Blocks, Slumps and Performance Anxiety for Good! is the ground-breaking book that will change the face of sports performance forever. This book introduces the breakthrough concept of STSD (Sport Traumatic Stress Disorder). Grand and Goldberg have discovered that STSDs are the cause of most significant performance problems. Performance blocks and anxiety, including the yips, stem from accumulated sports traumas including sports injuries, failures and humiliations. The authors also introduce the Brainspotting Sports Performance System (BSPS) which quickly finds, releases and resolves the sports traumas held in your brain and body. An easy read, THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON SPORTS is filled with engaging, informative, inspiring stories. These case examples illustrate how professional, elite, collegiate and junior athletes have been freed for good from this silent "epidemic" of performance blocks and anxiety including: the yips, "Steve Blass disease," "Mackey Sasser syndrome," protracted slumps, balking, choking and freezing. THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON SPORTS provides the answers and the cure for athletes, their coaches and parents about "Beating Blocks, Slumps and Performance Anxiety for Good!" Grand and Goldberg also show how their BSPS can take all athletes to levels they could only heretofore dream of!

Must Read For Anyone Connected With Competitive Sports By Earl The Pearl At last someone has finally come up with a method that gets to the roots of sports performance problems. David Grand and Alan Goldberg have created a seminal work of explaining why typical psychotherapy does not work for the deeper issues of unresolved sports traumas. They also make a strong case as to why sports psychologists have previously been unsuccessful in dealing with these deeper problems based mostly on the authors personal experience along with their research. The authors point out that the focus has always been on the actual performance problem, and not the deeper problems that the athlete brings to the field of competition, including many non-athletic related issues. Grand and Goldberg do an excellent job of researching why it is so critical to take into account the athlete's complete life history in order to heal the athlete as a person in order to treat the performance problem properly. In the treatment of sports performance, they make a strong argument for why Sports Traumatic Stress Disorder (STSD) exists and creates Repetitive Sports Performance Problems (RSPP's)! For anyone who is a coach or an athlete, this book needs to be your starting point for increased performance! For the fan, it will help you to understand why a top athlete like Tiger Woods can suddenly fall from the top of competition. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A must-read for anyone who has suffered a traumatic sports injury. By James Anthony If you or someone you know has ever been the victim of a traumatizing sports injury, this book is a must read, The research and results that the authors have pioneered in this area are nothing short of groundbreaking. Personally speaking, it helped my own family discover the answer to sport performance problems that my son was experiencing as a result of a devastating injury that once healed still haunted him with very strange side-effects. Reading the book led us to meeting with a Brainspotting therapist who in one session was able to help my son where months of treatments by various doctors had failed. Five stars for a life-changing book. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A fascinating read - and not just for athletes! By J Rabin My interest in this book was piqued after hearing it discussed by sports-minded friends. Though I am personally not immersed in the world of sports (never was) I was quickly hooked. The poignant stories of talented and highly motivated young people who excel at the sports they love and then inexplicably find themselves waylaid by stubborn performance issues gave me a window onto the athlete's world and empathy for their struggles. Drs. Goldberg and Grand's explanation of the roots of such performance problems and their innovative approach to resolving them should be of much interest to sports enthusiasts. I'd definitely also recommend this satisfying read to any couch potato like myself who has ever shaken her head in disbelief when watching a favorite athlete repeatedly blunder. There is a cautionary message for parents and had I read this book when my own children participated in recreational sports, I would have paid closer attention to the teaching climate set by their coaches. In fact, it should be required reading for all coaches, many of whom could use a hefty dose of understanding as to which training techniques work and which do not. Humiliation never does, according to the authors, and worse, can contribute to performance difficulties not experienced until years later. Probably (since they never know who they are) not a bad idea to gift this book to well-meaning but over-invested parents. Our son-in-law recently told us with pride that our grandson has a great pitching arm. Our grandson just turned two and a half. I think I shall give his dad a copy. See all 19 customer reviews...
